" Carolina or Bust"
It is Sunday afternoon. The Celtics are on TV {playing for the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP-- Yee-haw} this evening. We had a wonderful Pentecost celebration at church this morning, and so far, the rain as stayed away.
Vacation,{ and the fast from social media that will happen concurrently} cannot come soon enough for me.
Already I am weary of the Florida summer humidity, and I am starting to lose track of the days of the week due to the summer slowdown of activities. While I am leaning into the idea of sabbatical, I will honestly tell you that it is hard to stay in slow-down mode without wanting to curl up with my favorite University of West Florida stadium blanket and hibernate.
I think the upcoming trip back to the North Carolina mountains will re-energize my body and soul Traditionally, part of one's sabbatical is spent in different physical locations. Gas prices are high enough & neither Brian nor myself feel totally safe in airports and on airplanes quite yet {damn COVID threat} & we do not have the financial means for a long absence from our Pensacola home.
However, we will have tis Sabbath in the Mountains, and I plan to take full advantage of our time there. Living through COVID has brought home ow precious {and finite} that time is-- and how much time we humans waste on insignificant nonsense.
While I will not subject Brian to a rigid schedule, there are some things that I hope that we experience this year. For Instance, we got lost on the Blue Ridge parkway last year & missed seeing Linville Falls. This year, I am taking notes on address for the GPS system AND a phone number to call-- just in case we get lost again. We plan to do some " town hiking" in nearby Boone one day-- as it is a charming university town with a lot of different architecture and plenty of places to eat.
There is also a big 50th-anniversary party that we'll go to that will be held in honor of some family friends who are blessed enough to spend the entire summer on Beech Mountain. This is the only time that we'll be in dressy clothing-- our suitcase is filled with t shirts comfortable hiking shoes, & blue jeans
" Carolina or Bust"-- indeed.
